Gianni Centanni is the fictional character in these songs. Created by singer- songwriter Gianfranco Scala, Gianni sings the Po Valley flat lands, reflected in the checkered sea of rice fields, the tall flames of the refinery (the “cathedral”), and a dream of America often trapped between humidity and mosquitoes.
